Peter Gene Hernandez–better known by his stage name Bruno Mars–was born in 1985 and was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. Brought up in a musically inclined environment, Mars was one of six children making music from an early age and was no stranger to performing at local events. At age 4, he was performing five days a week with his family’s band, The Love Notes. He even made a cameo in the film Honeymoon in Vegas in 1992 for his winning Elvis impersonation that had made him well-known in his hometown.
Shortly after he graduated high school at 17, Bruno Mars tour 2017 decided to make a move to Los Angeles to further concentrate on a music career. He chose his stage name from the childhood nickname he’d earned–Bruno–and it just stuck. He signed with Motown Records in 2004, but the deal ultimately did nothing for his career and he was dropped less than a year later. He then signed with Westside Independent and was finely mentored by Steve Lindsey. For five years, Lindsey helped Mars craft himself into a powerhouse songwriter.
